Sports have always been a big part of my life. From my earliest memories of playing baseball, soccer, and competitive swimming as a child to my current role as a volunteer youth softball coach on Signal Mountain, sports have shaped who I am today. As a photographer, supporting local sports feels like a natural extension of my passion for sports and the community they foster.
Here’s why supporting local sports is so important to me and how it influences my work behind the lens.
Growing up, sports weren’t just activities—they were a way of life. Whether I was stepping up to the plate in baseball, chasing down a ball on the soccer field, or competing in the pool, those moments taught me lessons that extend far beyond the game.
Sports taught me about perseverance, teamwork, and how to push through challenges. They gave me confidence, a sense of purpose, and a community I could count on. It’s these memories and experiences that I now see reflected in the athletes and teams I photograph, and it’s what drives me to capture their stories.
As someone who has experienced the lifelong benefits of participating in sports, I know how transformative they can be for kids. Sports teach critical life skills that extend far beyond the field, including:
When I photograph young athletes, I don’t just see their game-day intensity—I see the leaders, innovators, and friends they’re becoming. Capturing their big moments feels like a way to honor their journey and celebrate their growth.
Supporting local sports isn’t just something I do with my camera—it’s also a commitment I make as a coach. Coaching youth softball on Signal Mountain has been one of the most rewarding ways I’ve been able to give back to my community.
Seeing young players, many who are brand new to softball, develop their skills, cheer for each other, and build their confidence is a constant reminder of why I love sports. Coaching allows me to be a part of that journey, helping kids experience the same joy and lessons that shaped my childhood.
Local sports programs are the heart of many communities, but they often rely on volunteers, funding, and support from individuals to thrive. As a photographer, I see the power of capturing these moments—team photos that commemorate a season, action shots that showcase an athlete’s hard work, or portraits that capture the pride of wearing a team jersey.
These images become treasured memories for families and athletes, but they also help highlight the importance of local sports. They remind us all why it’s worth cheering for our local teams and investing in the future of young athletes.
Supporting local sports isn’t just about showing up for the big games—it’s about celebrating the small moments, the hard work, and the connections that make the experience so special. For me, being a sports photographer and a youth coach isn’t just a job or a hobby; it’s a way to give back to something that has given me so much.
Whether I’m capturing a team’s winning shot or coaching a player through their first practice, I feel lucky to be a part of this incredible community. And I’ll keep showing up—both on the field and behind the lens—to celebrate the athletes who inspire us all.
